Belgrade: Trial date set in hooligan murder case - 12/04/2010

The trial of 15 hooligans charged with killing Frenchman Brice Taton last September is scheduled to start before the Belgrade District Court on April 21.
This was announced today by court spokeswoman Dušica Ristić.
Two of the accused who are on the run will be tried in absence, while all other defendants are in custody.
Protected witnesses, who were interrogated in the course of the investigation, are expected to testify at the trial. Their identities will remain secret for security reasons and the main hearing will be closed to the public.
The group will all be tried for aggravated murder.
They are charged with assaulting and killing Taton, a visiting French football fan, in central Belgrade on September 17, 2009.
The charges state the defendants engaged in wanton violence and were of sound mind, aware of their act and its criminal nature.
Taton was brutally beaten before he died in a Belgrade hospital ten days later.
