Milan ultra arrested after police find 'lethal explosive' at San Siro

A potential disaster in Italy has been avoided after police arrest a man concealing a deadly explosive planned to have been detonated during the AC Milan - Inter derby.

Italian police have avoided a potential catastrophe ahead of tonight's AC Milan - Inter derby after finding what they describe as a "potentially deadly" explosive near San Siro.

A 35-year-old man known as Marco Righetto, believed to be a Milan ultras leader belonging to the Tigre gang, has been arrested.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports agents from the Digos (serious crime unit) arrested the suspect just hours before kick-off, and found a cocktail of weapons including home-made explosives, four knives, baseball bats and CS spray inside his car.

Righetti has been charged with possession of explosive materials and violation of arms laws.

The game is sold out tonight with over 80,000 fans expected to see the Scudetto showdown between the two Milanese giants.

Inter are just two points behind the Rossoneri in what many believe to be a game which could decide the title.
